About Me

portraitI wasn’t born. I was adopted. More on that later. But for now, here’s a peek into my life as it stands. I’m a writer who has masqueraded as a newspaper girl, cashier at McDonald’s, telemarketer, bookstore clerk, intern at various media outlets, a publicist, nonprofit contractor and now as a social media strategist.

Oh, and I’m from Detroit. You know the one before the bankruptcy and vacant lots. I lived there when Coleman Young was the mayor, potholes had character and The Electrifying Mojo rocked the airwaves with Prince and Rick James wars. I was a kid then. In my late teens I won a journalism scholarship to Wayne State University. Yippee! But then my eyes started wandering and then…

I moved to NYC with less than $500 in my purse. I attended Fordham University and auditioned for TV and movies as I thought I would become an actress. Some days I lived off of writer’s fumes and dreams of my name in lights and then I started wondering about my mom. The one who gave birth to me. That adoption depression hit me really bad so I did some searching and after a few years I found her. After that I came up with an idea for my first novel Letters to Chyna and decided that I wanted to become a full-time writer. I wrote all of the time for my work as a publicist and my past jobs in the media, but I wanted more. I longed to create worlds, perfect my prose, and write poetry.

After I completed my book, I created a blog and started shopping my manuscript around. Some years passed, rejection letters from agents poured in and I finally got a literary agent in 2014. I am currently unrepresented, but I am still pressing to get that first novel published.

In the meantime, I will continue to blog about my writer’s life experiences, pop culture, the arts and… Promote my first self-publishing effort, 12 Hours of Daylight – A Jason Jules Novella! You didn’t think I wouldn’t get a book out into the marketplace did you? That is the joy of being a hybrid author!  You’re also more than welcome to contact me here if you would like to learn more about my writing process or if you just want say hello!
