Promoting, promoting, promoting. Yes, I know. I have been doing a lot of that lately.
I self-published a new book in January and I’ve had to get the word out. I used several avenues, but the one I used the most is social media. Professionals warn against this, and I know better too since I am a digital marketer myself. But, in the first month, I used this method of promoting the most because it was the largest network I had access to.
I was able to obtain other sources for promoting my book and I will continue to do so!
Self Publishing Review Interview
Writers Pay It Forward Feature
Thanks to everyone who has bought 12 Hours of Daylight, reviewed it and shared it with their network so far. I truly appreciate it! I also thank you for your patience as I have filled your social media feeds with information about my book and also my GoFundMe campaign. I also share some other pretty cool stuff too so please forgive me if you have seen more of my promotional efforts than you would like to.
But…
As most of you know, I am more than just book promotion. I was a well-rounded person before I put a book out and I will always be. Here are some other things I’m enjoying these days besides hawking my literary wares. Let me promote thee:
What I’m Reading:
I am really enjoying Bright, Precious Days, by Jay McInerney. It’s set in NYC and features a married couple who are battling infidelity and other marital issues after the events of 9/11. The husband heads an indie publishing company and the wife leads the charge to feed the homeless.
If you haven’t browsed through a copy of Shelf Unbound, you should. It showcases the best in self published books.
Follow me on Goodreads to see what else I’m reading.
What I’m Listening To:
For a break from today’s struggle news and fractured politics, I’m filling my ears, head and soul with these alternatives.
Podcasts
Hot Chocolate With Locals – A travel podcast that serves you a cup of steaming hot chocolate by way of women of color who are globe-trotting, living, loving and making a living in exotic locations around the world.
The Vulture TV Podcast – New York Magazine’s weekly radio roundtable of critics give their opinions on what’s hot and what’s not on TV.
NPR 1A – This podcast delves into the issues that affect our First Amendment Rights.
NPR Pop Culture Happy Hour – A festival for the ears for those like me who love books, movies, TV and entertainment in general.
Music:
I listen to a variety of music, but here are a just few selections that have me tapping my foot right now.
Marian Hill – Look. That Apple iPhone commercial has me shook. Every time it comes on I find myself transfixed. This music is a bowl of soup that’s chock full of tasty goodness. Get into it.
Big Sean – I Decided is pretty dope. My Detroit brother always puts it down.
What I’m Playing:
I am a gamer who likes to go on a visual journey so I’m digging these right now.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare
I slept on all of the other Alan Wake games but this one has my attention. A writer fighting baddies, collecting manuscript pages and splitting the darkness with light and fire power? Yup, I’m sold.
The Walking Dead A New Frontier
I had been waiting for this one for a while. I’m mad that I can’t play it on my Xbox 360. It’s not so bad on the iPad though.
What I’m Watching:
This could be a year-long blog post series, so I will just include a few shows I’m hooked on right now.
The. Feelings. I. Get. From. This. Show. So many layered emotions. The cast and the beautifully bitter-sweet twists and turns have stolen my heart. Read up on it yourself and dive in. You won’t be disappointed.
Comedic gold. You may love or hate all of the characters, but you WILL keep watching and laughing!
What I’m Buying and Where I’m Shopping:
I love trying new things so I was pleased to find out that if I run out of certain household items or want to order a new electronic reading device that I could get them delivered to me in two hours or less. Cool, right?
Check out Amazon Now when you get the chance. If you have Prime you’re eligible for the speedy shopping service.
New Body Wash Alert!
I practically live at Target so when I saw this and smelled it I knew I had to try it. I was also happy that the company donates a bar of soap to a person in need for each purchase they receive.
Now you can see I’m not just posting book promos all day! So, what’s up with you? What are you reading, listening to, watching or eating? Maybe you can recommend some new things for me and others to try.
Have a great week ahead!
