Today’s dVerse prompt asked us to take three words that either describe us or mean a lot and three words that describe people or things we’re grateful to have in our lives. We were then tasked to create a short poem no longer than 12 lines incorporating the six words.
Here is what I came up with:
A silly girl with wooly hair loves words
She walks in the rain holding a purple bumbershoot
Dreaming of a tantalizing love
Her ideal suitor is creative
Adores wild colors
Gentle music from the Caribbean
And
Has a strong relationship with the omniscient one
The storm is over, but she still twirls the umbrella
While a rainbow curves just above her
Covering her in hope and a kaleidoscope of realities

This made me smile. You sound like a fun person who enjoys life!
Awwww, I’m glad! I am pretty fun when NYC isn’t kicking my behind! I have a lust for life for sure. Thank you! 🙂
That rainbow perhaps does shine hope over you that you find that perfect match for you. Bumbershoot – what a fun word. I particularly like wooly hair too. Ha.
Thank you. I am hopeful. I like the freedom of being single, but moments spent with a true one are beyond compare. 😉
Bumbershoot is one of my favorite words. I discovered it as a child and have been enamored with it since then.
What a great self-portrait! I love the kaleidoscope of reality. Hope all your dreams come true amidst the real.
I hold that same hope for you. Thank you! I believe our realities come in beautiful colors and flavors! Can’t wait to savor. 🙂
Bumbershoot and Omniscient LOVE these words! Thank you for sharing.
Me too! Thanks!
I love the last three lines. This is great. 🙂
Thank you!
Love the personal snapshot ~ I would love to play with that umbrella with the rainbow above ~
Thanks for joining in ~
It was my pleasure!
Loved this sweet poem! You sound like such a fun-loving person 😀
Cheers!
Thank you! I do love to laugh!
Here in WA state, Bumbershoot is a summer Arts, Crafts, & Rock Festival at the Seattle Center. Your NY mood style made me smile. Remember, in life, you find Love, or it finds you, when you quit searching for it.
Another reason I love the word! It’s associated with arts and crafts! Cool! You’re right about love. 😉
Wish there was a LOVE button I could hit. This reminds me of a wild paisley brolly I had as a child and how I unfurled it, even in the sunlight because I loved twirling it and watching the sun filter through it. Such a lovely honest poem….A silly girl with wooly hair loves words – this line captured my heart.
I’m happy you liked it. I loved umbrellas as a little girl and throughout my adulthood. There is just something so whimsical about them.
I used one to jump off the top of our house, ala Mary Poppins. Three stories up, my grandfaters umbrella, big for a small sized child, like Christopher Robin. I broke one of my ankles, lol.
Oh no!!! That sounds like something I would have done as a child too. I was a tom boy!
Lol…I wasn’t a tomboy, I was just strange. My husband says he wouldn’t put it past me to again try the experiment, but alas! The little pat of butter has grown into one of those large tubs. 🙂
You aren’t strange! You were just a girl who wanted to fly! 😉
I still am!
Yes! Me too!
Thanks for sharing your story too! I love The visual that goes along with that.
oh nice – i love the dreaminess and light-heartedness of this – the walk in the rain – the keeping the umbrella and the rainbow – the colors you mixed in… def. the right one will appear exactly at the right time…
It was raining here in NYC so that inspired me. Thank you!
A PERFECT LOVER lives inside
a human of DANCE.. oh
all the EMOTIONS named
in moves of feet..
and spirals of arms..
beyond named
they can be
with INFINITE
CHAKRAS of
personal delight..:)
Beautiful and true! Thank you!
This is absolutely gorgeous–I LOVE IT!
I love your blog title! Thanks!
So glad you enjoyed that–thank you!
Love the idea of a kaleidoscope of realities. But the winning word is bumbershoot. What a delicious sound.
I had so much fun with this prompt. Happy that people are enjoying what I created. Thanks for visiting and commenting.
OK, you had me seriously puzzled here – I had to look up bumbershoot. I had no idea it was an umbrella, I thought it was something like a bumblebee and it seemed rather foolhardy to be holding one in the rain (even if it’s purple and doesn’t sting). I’m glad we’ve cleared that one up!
You must be the only person who included the word ‘silly’ – a fun and brave thing to do, although I think the silly you mean is miles away from the silliness of my boys when they are determined to drive me up the wall…
Lots of fun reading this poem, thank you!
Ha! I was smiling reading your comment. I picked up on the word reading one of the classics as a kid. I can’t remember the name of the book though.
No, holding a purple bumblebee would not have been smart, but now you’ve given me another idea! 🙂
Greetings!
I enjoyed reading your poems and think this is a great prompt/exercise.
Greetings to you! Thanks so much for taking the time to visit!
I’m now following your site. Looking forward to reading. Looks like mind lifting material.
Oh, I love the inclusion of gentle Caribbean music; somehow you carry us over that rainbow with you!
Nothing like island music! Thrilled you felt it!
the bumbershoot must help the magic 🙂
Oh, it does! 😉
I enjoyed the hopefulness of this poem, even though it starts in the rain, which usually is not thought of as hopeful weather. Peace, Linda
Peace to you too Linda. Thank you.
props to the wooly hair sista! I’m rockin a wooly mullet currently. hahah. This is a great piece of reflection… I see a fun, kind personality with a strong sense of faith and hope 🙂
Yes, big ups to textured hair moments. I wear my hair straight mostly, but I have rocked an afro puff or two in my day and love when my hair gets crispy. I can do a lot with it! 😉
Thanks for your kind comments. I really liked this prompt. 🙂
A bit of silly playfulness is essential to enjoying life…like i enjoyed this purple bumbershoot poem!
It sure is! Thank you! Happy you liked it!
What awesome words you chose…I love “tantalizing”……and “a kaleidoscope of realities” is such a cool image….I really like that.
Thanks C.C. 🙂
