Today’s dVerse prompt was to create a poem that has layers, which means it’s not as it seems. It could mean one thing or another, or many things. Here is the result of my efforts. What do you think these lines mean? Who am I talking about? Or what? Share your thoughts in the comments!
the warmth of you covers my shell
and my soul
invigorating my spirit
energizing me when I feel old
i see you sometimes
in dreams of gold
but you disappear quickly
into the earth you go
your pleasure is torture
billowing down like rain
bruising my mind
causing such beautiful pain
my life’s quest is to capture you
breathe you in like air
i get close and in an instant
you transport away into your lair
if only i knew
how
why
and
where

First of all, I really enjoyed the picture; and then I also enjoyed the way you wrote the poem. The ending really carried me away…sometimes you really do wonder where that elusive someone goes when they transport themselves away…
Mary, thank you. So many things and people slip away from us, but we always learn something during their visits. Sometimes they come back. Torturing us many times over. 😉
Nice. There are several ways this could go. It could be on the intimate level or it could be on the spiritual level. So many things in this world are so ellusive and just when we seem to have it in our grasp, it slips away. Though the chase is a big part of the fun too. ha.
I do love the chase. So true! Thanks for your visit!
These reads almost like layer cake, with the multiple bolded lines. Nice.
My guess would the the sun. 😉
Mmmmm, that’s a nice thought. I love how the creator can learn more about their work from the reader. Thank you!
I also like the way the “frosting” (bolded lines) make a poem in and of themselves.
I agree- I read it that way first.
Thanks for reading!
I’ve noticed that I’ve been doing this a lot lately with my poetry. I enjoy writing two or more poems in one. Thanks for appreciating it!
Jesus, God, Buddha, or old SAUL, or your first love, a woodsman with wanderlust; regardless, you have an imaginative take on the “layers” prompt; nice job.
Thanks Glenn! You are right on so many levels. 😉
To me this is a spiritual journey..finding the answers in the quest …each a layer of who we are…or perhaps, the discovery of awakening love..
I like how you’ve interpreted the work. Thanks for taking the time to visit and share your thoughts.
very interesting – read it several times with different things in mind – one thought was the sun – a specific person – def. some nice layers here
Thanks so much Claudia! I do have a fascination with the sun.
I’m with De about the sun. She is always a golden muse.
She sure is. She is welcome in my world any time.
The way the spaces between the lines really make this very interesting. To me I see this really gives it different meaning with each reading.
I can also get new poems by focusing on certain lines… Like looking at a picture squinting my eyes.
Yes. You will always get a different view and meaning.
Bjorn, I am hooked on writing poems this way now. I don’t want to over do it, but I am happy to know it’s being appreciated.
Could be a lover, a spiritual journey, or also the quest for the perfect word, for creativity, for accomplishing that perfect work of art…
I love the notion of striving for the perfect work of art Marina. Thanks for sharing that thought.
Ah.. yes.. the balance.. so blessed to find.. and to stay in balance.. is treasure sought.. and equally gold to stay in balance in hallowed role..:)
So very true. To be balanced is to stay on course for greatness. I love your take on this.
I also read a spiritual aspect into this poem. For me, the cover was God, and this stanza summed up the whole for me: “my life’s quest is to capture you / breathe you in like air.” And I love the picture as well. Peace, Linda
Thanks Linda. I am a very spiritual person. 🙂
I decoded this to mean the sun, but I can imagine other interpretations, much deeper.
very nice. 🙂
Thank you!
