Due to my work load and emotional state, I initially decided not to participate in NaPoWriMo this year. My love of poetry is pulling me in though so I will go gently into this good night with this selection.
For the 30 Poems in 30 Days challenge, today’s task is to create a palinode, an ode in which the writer retracts a view or sentiment expressed in an earlier poem.
The poem I’ve decided to hack is How Do I Regard Thee, a ditty that explores some sweet passion being expressed.
Actually
My regard for you has waned
My love, blocked like arteries
Passion dried up like prunes
Your hold on my heart has slowly led to my ruin
I now hate that I love you
I abhor your sensuality
Loathe your slick charm and subtle sensitivity
You annoy me
Get under my skin
Irritate my brain cells
Destroy me from within
I quit you on many occasions
But just like monthly bills you always return
How cocky
Arrogant and snide
Can you not discern?
I broke up with you
You’re dismissed. Begone!
Stop whispering in my ear like a Michael Franks song
If you refuse to leave I’ll make your life hell
Wake you up at all hours
Our partnership will become a cliché
Packaged in hyperbole
Dipped in a circuitous shell
I know how you hate that
You love impeccability
We’ll see how long you’ll stick around
When I wax prolixity
incessantly, consistently, continually and habitually
We’ll see
Yes, we’ll see
To Be Continued…
