Lyric Fire: A Poet’s Sigh

A Poet’s Sigh…

more than just a breath of air or an exasperated expression

it’s an emotional wind gust, a scream with words

tribal vibrations triggered by images created

with delicate hands that have been washed in rough water

a deep well of feeling

harnessed by lyrical potions

made by mixologists of limericks and language lords

every deed whether dirty or clean can be seen from afar

by life’s documentarians

we snap mental pictures and expose their truths

in dark rooms only illuminated by poetic light

carrying the weight of all that is good and evil

helps to build, stretch and strengthen the body of our many works

things that escape the view of others

hit us square in the jaw

bruising our sensibilities

and then healing them in an instant

just like salve, our creations can protect

and help heal but also like acid

they can break down and destroy hidden notions

take cover and beware when a poet sighs

a storm is brewing in the mind

that will make a thunderclap and rain on pages

breathe deeply

stand tall

and

be

the

poetry

you

wish

    Hello Tameka.
Only a poet can understand the depths of what you have written. This is DIVINE…straight from the heart of a poet.
I read a few months ago that poetry is a dead art. It’s thanks to faithful poets like you, me & all the other poets who keep entertaining us with their magical words that poetry will continue to have a voice.
Thank you for this wonderful piece of writing.
Thanks also for visiting. I appreciate the comment.
