Hello readers! I’m always in a poetic state of mind, but with all of the poetry celebrations going on this month, I’m lyrically loopy!
Contributing to that loopiness is NaPoWriMo, which I learned about from fellow blogger Sweepy Jean. NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.
I’ve already started celebrating National Poetry Month by featuring the work of other poets, so I thought I’d add to the fun by participating in NaPoWriMo as well.
I’m a few days late in getting started, but here is my first offering using NaPoWriMo’s book title prompt that requires the poet to create a poem using three book titles they have on their bookshelf. My selections are: This Child’s Gonna Live, by Sarah E. Wright, The Space Between Us, by Thrity Umrigar and The True Power of Water: Healing and Discovering Ourselves, by Masaru Emoto.
Post Natal Ingredients
This child’s gonna live in the space between us
so we now need to feed our souls true food
casting out all of the junk from past fast meals
that have slowly filled our HEARTeries with
lousy lipids and cancerous cholesterol
this gorgeous being that we’ve created
is a microcosm of all of our failings
we may dress him up in fine fashions
and powder his body with fragrant scents to ease the stench
but he still reeks of the afterbirth of our descent
The transformation from sugar addicts to health fanatics
wont be easy
but we must
flush out the mental and psychological waste
with the true power of water and begin to feast on
brain grains and forgiving fiber
the seed that is growing from our soil cannot thrive
if we nourish it with contaminated nutrients
take my hand now and let’s embrace and commit to taste
the flavor of health and unity
doing so will protect our harvest and give him immunity
from our previous insanity
our love’s creation deserves pure parental guidance and not false vanity
for publicity’s sake
if not he’ll die before he wakes
