the moon tilts twirls and rotates
friends love you, hate you, leave you
money grows and recedes into oily waters
flowers burst into vibrant colors and emit gorgeous fragrances
then wilt
and die
Shift Happens
24 hours a day every minute shift is happening
in the blink of a babies eye
a seedling grows
a garden springs forth that can feed a billion people
thunder crackles
snowflakes form vanilla mountains on sidewalks
red lips turn pale
purple
orange
blue and pink
whispers turn to shouts
then squeals
then moans of ecstacy
Shift Happens
one year into the next
dates merge and blur
creating a poignant painting
1-31
sometimes 28 or just 30
days
tick tick tick
we count, we circle and highlight special occasions
and bemoan others
we sink into soft sheets
sleep so deep
wake so refreshed and then we’re tired again
poetry is so pretty to our ears today
makes us bawl the next
we hate turning on the radio
sweet songs make us sick to our stomachs
but yet we smile
ting!
you can see the cheese between our teeth the smile is so wide
we mean it in the moment
happiness is in our dna
etched in blood
soaked in decades of debauchery
why else would we fake the funk so willingly?
we forget why we’re here
we get caught up in the hype of the hurricane
the noise keeps us going
rocks us steady
when it gets too quiet
we yearn for drama
it drives us
then we apologize for throwing
fuel on the fire
but as the blaze grows we smile
see
we did that
we caused that
we know we’re happy for the carnage
but we weep over the dead carcass
and say sorry
so sorry
