The Year of the Writer/Worker Bee – My 2015 Reviewed

I am a creative, but I was in writer/worker bee mode

(writer version of worker bee) for most of this year and I don’t know how I really feel about that. Yes, I own my own digital marketing business and I’m proud of that, but my personal projects are just as important. They have to be if I want to succeed in turning them into my full-time daily reality.

I’m not beating myself up, just taking an honest self assessment.

If I am being totally honest, I was more of a micro-creative this year. A lot of my poems were featured either on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.  I only created 21 blog posts this year. For me, that is a very low number.

A lot of my energy was client and work focused and I need to better balance that in 2016.

It wasn’t a bad year, I held my own and stayed steady. Meh. I know I can do better and I will.

But…

Years when you have a lot of balls in the air, irons in the fire and pending projects that don’t quite materialize can still be counted as successes because nothing worth achieving happens over night. Some people spend years working on books, producing movies and building businesses. Things of quality often take a little more time. Okay, I can rock with that.

I got a lit agent in 2014, but most of that year was spent editing and getting my manuscript where it needed to be so it could be submitted to publishers this year and it was (YAY!). We’re still working on getting it out in early 2016 as well to a second round, so my spirits are still very high in that regard.

Another goal I wanted to achieve this year was to find a new apartment, but I haven’t as of yet. No bother, I have more opportunities to find a new Lyric Lair in the coming year and I’m looking forward to it.

Traveling more in the new year is definitely on the menu because I was grounded for the past 12 months.

No wheels went up for me as I had a lot of dental expenses which left no travel dollars in the budget. I did have a few staycations that were amazing though so I can’t complain. New York is a pretty cool city to be stuck in.

I did foster and nurture my friendships this year which is very meaningful to me. I connected with folks that I hadn’t seen in a while, had video game and movie play dates with close friends and had one of the best birthdays, Christmas and New Year holidays that I’ve had in a long time.

On the agenda for early next year is to honor my Mama Lillian by visiting her as I haven’t hugged her neck in a while. She actually asked several times for me to visit this year and I wasn’t able to make it work, so I need to get to her and soon!

My King is still out there too. I just didn’t meet him this year! But, my sister found hers and she’s getting married next year so I can just live vicariously through her! Yes! Thanks sis!

I didn’t achieve everything I wanted to this year, but I am still in a good place because I’m old enough to know that the journey can be just as rich and rewarding as the destination. It’s all in how we choose to experience it.  I hope you know this too.

Whatever you dream can come true. Don’t look at other people’s success and gauge your own.

Your time will come. So will mine. I will continue on my quest to build the life I want and I WILL enjoy the life I have while doing so because it’s pretty blessed!

To everyone who visited my site and spent time reading my blog this year, you are appreciated. Have a blessed, safe and Happy New Year!
