My Blog Lyric Fire: Book Binge: “Never in My Wildest Dreams: A Black Woman’s Life in Journalism” by Belva Davis

I consider myself to be a news head and journalism junkie, but I must admit that I was not familiar with the work of Belva Davis. Growing up in the Midwest, I was not privy to the trails she blazed for over five decades in broadcast journalism in the San Francisco Bay area. One can only imagine the experiences she must have gone through reporting during times of civil and social unrest.

In her book “Never in My Wildest Dreams: A Black Woman’s Life in Journalism,” she writes about her triumphs, adventures and challenges as she worked to become the first African American woman to anchor the news on the West Coast.

I truly look forward to reading more about the life of this news pioneer.

  1. Jim says:

It should be an interesting read. I remember Terry Carter as an anchor in Boston in the mid 60s before he went on to acting success in McCloud and I believe Battleship Galantaca and then in the 80 Liz Walker was the first black anchor of the evening new and stayed on for 25 years.
    I’ll look for it. Thanks

  2. I agree Jim. I idolized all news anchors when I was growing up. I thought that they had the best job in the world!
