Monsoon Demystified

Monsoon-Google-Images

Today’s dVerse prompt subject is Monsoons.

Let’s linger here for a minute. What a lovely word. It conjures up thoughts of romance and mystery as our Poetics host talked about, but a monsoon can also cause destruction. How is it that we can find beauty in something dangerous?

Will you find some elegance in this piece? Let me know in the comments!

A discourse trickles sometimes

Getting to its audience slowly

And then drowning them in the aftermath of its storm

How much more can we take of this melodic monsoon

As it washes away our masks

There are no more places to hide

You have to wear boots to weather this terrain

But even then you’re not protected

The rhythm of the reign is upon us

No turning back

We must face this

Let get naked and walk through the droplets together

Soaking in sound, but drenched with doubt

We await the rescuers

But they have been waylaid

We must patch up the waterlogged exits

And wait out the tide of this contempt

Or if we are brave

We can build a boat

And ride the waves to freedom

Ha. This was fun. It went a bunch of different ways.
Maked in the rain sounds fun, soaked in sound. I love playing in the rain.
Dancing in the puddles. So that is just another step.

Think I would def be willing to build a boat over waiting.
I remember you saying yesterday you wrote a piece on Charleston.
Think I will look for that one too.

    • TamekaMullins says:

Thanks X. There are so many thoughts on my mind that I’m sure it came out in the writing. When we are naked we’re our truest selves. No hiding. From ourselves or others.

  2. Grace says:

Build a boat out of anything you can find, smiles ~ I specially like the turn in the ending, riding the waves to freedom ~

  3. I love the imagery in this and your word choice is wonderful. I like that the rescuers are “waylaid.” Perhaps they’ll never come, but we can be brave, I know we can. Peace, Linda

    • TamekaMullins says:

Thanks so much Linda. Certain words are treats to use. One of my favorites. Yes, we must be brave in spite of the monsoons that continually rain down.

  4. Sanaa Rizvi says:

    We can build a boat
And ride the waves to freedom

Loved the closing lines.. such a beautiful write 😀

  5. Lila says:

I like the last 3 lines.

  6. Truedessa says:

I say build a boat to freedom..may the wind be with you in your journey..

  7. thotpurge says:

rhythm of the reign – made me go back and read the beginning of the poem again.. works at multiple levels!

  8. kanzensakura says:

Naked in the rain…unafraid, unashamed.A brave piece this is. Riding the wave to freedom. And I do not mean this flippantly, I immediately started singing Love Train….start a love train…let’s get on board. Yes ma’am….let that pure rain wash all the ugly out of our hearts. Most excellent I hope that wave gets bigger and bigger.

    • TamekaMullins says:

That is one of my favorite songs! There is nothing flippant about that tune. Love your whole comment. Thanks for getting it.

  9. Dorianna says:

I love the changing moods as you experienced the storm, imagining the phases of the monsoon. Particularly, I like “washes away our masks” and “The rhythm of the reign is upon us”.

  10. claudia says:

sometimes it’s a good thing when the masks are washed away – and needs some wisdom to decide whether to wait for the rescuers or board a boat…probably i would go for the boat option..

    • TamekaMullins says:

Hi Claudia. Being proactive regarding ones survival is key. The boat it is.

  11. A rain that washes away our masks. I like the concept of such a rain, there is a freshness there, and building that boat is something almost metaphoric of the monsoon.. Maybe that’s how we should live through ordeals.

    • TamekaMullins says:

Bjorn, I saw in my mind’s eye an image of masks and cleansing water and that line took hold. I agree that is how we should live.

  12. DELL CLOVER says:

I loved it–and for all the reasons already mentioned here.

  13. Bryan Ens says:

nice pairing of the romance of the monsoon with it’s dangers…I suppose much like true love can be wonderful…but love that is no more than lust can be quite destructive.

  14. billgncs says:

I hadn’t considered that a monsoon could have political undertones – but I am now enlightened – nice 🙂

  15. Ah.. the world waits for saviors.. creates super heroes by the dozen
for our perusal.. oh.. but each human is a drop of Monsoon Love
just waiting to explode as seed of living
    naked human life..
    no longer clothed
    by illusions of shame..
    guilt.. regret.. over what we
    are as simple
    loving
    empathic
    creatures..
    strong we are together
    locked in arms of warmth..
    weak we are
    separate
    in seeds
    that never
    sprout…
    We Love as
    Garden..
    we fall
    unwatered
    by
    Well
    of
    Monsoon Love..:)
