Let Go & Encourage Your Words to Flow!

This isn’t a 10 Steps to Being a Better Writer blog post. It’s a Reclaim Your Passion for Writing blog post. No matter your work in progress, you’re probably thinking ahead of the writing. You’re pondering your re-writes, wondering which publications you should send your work to, you’re fretting over not hearing from your dream literary agent. STOP IT! I mean it! Stop right now and breathe!

In and out. Deeply. Now, let go of those thoughts. Focus now instead on your creations. If you’re writing in long-hand, feel the pen in your hand. Listen to your breathing. Hear the birds chirp outside as you write from your heart. If you’re typing on the computer, take note of your writer’s rhythm, how your fingers dance happily across QWERTY and ASDFGH and XCVBNM.

If you’re a fiction specialist, get to know your characters. Hang out with them. Talk to them, laugh with them, learn from them. If you’re writing self-help, business or instructional books or other forms of writing, enjoy your research, read other books that inspire you, bang out a blog post and share your knowledge.

Do you know who you are? A writer. Do you realize how powerful that is? You build, create, formulate, educate, pontificate, celebrate. You document, shed light, uncover, decipher, investigate. You empower and enlighten.

Own it.

Go.

Be.

A.

Writer.

The other stuff like publication, acknowledgements and awards will come, but only if you’re fully engulfed in the art, and not the business aspects of writing.

CHALLENGE: How will you let go today? Share in the comments!

You are among the best writers I truly admire Tameka for the simple reason that you love what you are doing. Thank you so much for the encouragement!
Your words are truly powerful and it also makes me think of another great writer who has the same passion ~ Sulekha Rawat 🙂
Your focus is on the passion and not on the achievements and accolades you’ll get ~ they will come later and you’ll reap your harvest.
Love this! I bookmarked it so I can always get back to it.

  6. Thanks so much Melissa! Your words are so flattering! I am honored to be mentioned along with Sulekha! She’s amazing! I’m glad you enjoyed the post!
