NaPoWriMo 2012 – 30 Poems in 30 Days – Day 21

Whew, it’s been 21 days of straight poetry! Wowzers! I’m feeling a little loopy today so I thought I’d write something fun and silly and when I think of fun I think of rapper Nicki Minaj. The crazy colorful wigs and outfits, her eye-popping videos and catchy outlandish lyrics sometimes inspire negative critiques, but honestly, I think the girl is just trying to have a little fun. It doesn’t hurt that she shares my astrological sign of Sagittarius either. We can sometimes be tactless and over the top, but at our core, we are creative, loving and filled with passion! Happy Saturday! Hope you enjoy:

Nicki’s Mirage

11 million followers dropped like a dime

All because a rapper heard voices in her mind

She be pink and manic & some may call her sleazy

But her flow is rather hectic

She is the female Weezy!

Her eyes are wide like saucers

She makes that paper like the ballers

Her clothes are sometimes silly

Cause she be sipping on that Henny

But when it comes to rhyming

No one can beat her timing

She beez in the trap

The chick can flat out rap

So when it comes to dissing

Please keep it on the low

If she hears you flipping

She drop that ass to the floor

Not with her fist

Because she is non-violent

She’ll cut you quick with lyrics

Your eye will be bruised and shining

So she has gone silent

For how long we do not know

Maybe it’s just a ploy

To make her some more dough

Cause Twitter is a flitter

And Facebook is abuzz

All talking about Nicki

And the ill shit that she does

That girl’s got a plan

She aint showing her hand

She’ll be back I’m sure

This is just a detour

So don’t pout

And be sad

Bump her music

And be glad

It’s only entertainment yo’

There always be plenty mo’

I’m sitting here watching this beauty sing, using colorful metaphors and slinging her vibe in my face. LOL!! Fun! Your poem was a blast too. I can see you rapping… rhyming. C’mon, do it and play the video here! LOL!! I’m a total trouble maker but if I were young I think I’d be diving into everything!
So, my artist friend, I must comment you on your sticktoitivness! Amazing Tameka!!! Never stop T, never stop <3
    Love you honey pie!

  2. LOL! LEAH! See how we Sag’s get down? As you eat life raw and I spit lyrics of fire, Nicki raps ravishingly doesn’t she? I love people who throw caution to the wind and live their lives loud and she definitely does that. I may take you up on your challenge and post a vid of me rapping one day really soon. Honestly, I’m more of a creator of lyrics than a spitter of them, but I will step out of my comfort zone and do it for the fun of it one day soon.
Thanks for always championing me. I’m so proud of you too and can’t wait to read your book. Cheers and hugs mama! 🙂

    Hello.
I saw a documentary on Nicki Minaj not so long ago. I’m not really into the whole rapping scene, but there’s no question she’s talented. Just as you are equally talented with this lyrical number. A video of you rapping…now that would be something. I know you can command that stage (smile). Never lose that creative spark of yours Tameka. Keep your creativity coming. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Thanks Sulekha! I think I may get a purple wig and create another persona for my performance! 😉
Hey Andy, yeah, rapping and hip-hop isn’t for everyone, but at their core most of the artists are simply poets with super charged clothes and marketing! LOL! Thanks as always for your comments and your support. Cheers! 🙂

  6. Hi, Tameka! ~
Thank you for introducing me to Nicki Minaj! Loved the video — very inspiring since I’m working on my next video (whatever that means — haha!)
I agree with Sister Sag, Leah, who says YOU should make your own video and post it HERE!!!
Great poem and tribute to an over-the-top DIVA! Thank you! Thank you!!!

  7. That girl has got style – her own – and so have you, lady! 🙂

  8. Hey Linda! I knew you would appreciate this being that you are a part of the archer club! With all of this encouragement, perhaps I will make my last poem of the month into a rap and post the vid. We shall see! I can’t wait to see your next video! We are doing it up for April aren’t we? Cheers! 🙂

  9. Thanks Corinne! So do you! I love your style! 🙂

  10. Oh, I must admit, I’m totally out of the loop when it comes to rap; I never heard of Nicki until now. If she writes anywhere near as wonderfully as you do, then she’s mighty talented!
    Blessings!

  11. Awww, you are a sweetheart Martha! I appreciate that! 🙂

I like Nicki Minaj. She’s creative and not afraid to be herself. Your poem is just as colorful as she is. Yay for woman power! ;p

  13. Thanks Sweepy! Women rock the world! 😉
