Lyric Fire: My Journey in the Key of C – Poem for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the following poem which I wrote specifically for the BlogNostics web event Pinktober, is dedicated to all who have been affected by breast cancer. The disease has not hit me close, but I do know others who have been touched and this is for them.

Please contribute in any way you can, whether it’s by making a donation to a charity, doing a walk to raise awareness or simply educating others about the disease by disseminating information. We need to eradicate this disease. I hope the poetry below touches you, provokes you to act and brings you some peace if you’ve ever lost someone to breast cancer. Blessings to all.

My Journey in the Key of C:

cold

shivering

invaded like enemy territory

exhausted

tired of hiding my condition

worried

i don’t want to lose this life

sweating

like icicles in the sun

melting

floating

diminishing

vanishing

but not before i say

i remember every word you’ve said

every hug you gave

every touch you’ve placed

every kiss you laid on places public and private, my love

smiling

lips turned up like hot mugs of coffee on a work day

laughing

remembering silly times with my children

marveling at how much they’ve grown

proud of the people they’ve become

crying

i see how much you’re hurting

your strength is an inspiration

reaching

out for your hand

sister i love you

i know you love me

there is/was nothing more you could have done

pleading

please dry your tears

focus on our good years

sleep, eat, travel, love

live your life

be happy

it wasn’t your fault

never was

praying

asking for a multitude of blessings

please take care of the ones i leave behind

find a cure for this mind, soul, body, and spirit-space invader

content

i have angels waiting for me

how i’ve missed you so mom and dad

i long now to glide with you in the great ever-after

breathing deep arriving at sweet peace

glinting

the bright light is luscious and beautiful

flying

elevating

now

forever home

Thank you for sharing this poignant poem. My mom is a breast cancer survivor. This gave me a peek at where she was at emotionally and spritually at that time. Thank God it’s been more than 10 years and Mom is still with us.

  3. AJ, You are very welcome. So happy that your mom is a survivor! As long as we keep making breast cancer awareness a priority we can continue to save lives. I was honored to work with the American Cancer Society last year and will work in any capacity to bring light to how we can overcome this disease. Blessings to you, your mom and your family.
