My Blog Lyric Fire: “O” What A Day of Creativity!

On Friday, January 7th I left my apartment and drifted out into the elements armed with my Android camera phone and a dream. It was snowing lightly as I walked to the subway, but earlier weather reports said that New York could get up to 10 inches of snow. As I braced myself against the winter chill, I thought about the possibilities of the day.

I was on my way to Hearst Tower, the home to various media brands and entities. I had an appointment with an editor who handles casting for O, The Oprah Magazine. I was asked to come in after submitting my photo and bio for a future issue on upcoming poets. Unfortunately I was told that particular shoot was booked, but instead I was offered a chance to test for another issue which featured “real women” in fantastic fashion shoots. Admittedly, I was a little nervous as I am so NOT a model, but I put my fears aside, dressed in all black and decided to enjoy the experience.

After signing in at the front desk I traveled up the long elevator and to the O office. As I was walking in a tall pretty staffer asked if I was there for casting which really boosted my ego! I then greeted the editor who was very friendly. Before she conducted a short interview and took about 10 photos of me in various poses, I was able to take in the energy of the office. I was surrounded by racks of clothes, shoes and accessories. The staff was young and energetic and I could feel the creative synergy in the air.

After the interview I was told that I’d be contacted if I was chosen as a model for the photo shoot. I’m still waiting to hear back, but the experience of auditioning to be in O, The Oprah Magazine was the creative kick in the pants I needed to start the year off.

I have been blogging a lot more and also started sending out queries for my novel again, as I took a year off to separate myself from the manuscript in 2010.

It’s not always easy to live in New York City, but I feel ultimately blessed to live in a metropolis where dreams don’t die, they multiply! No what matter what challenges lie ahead I will continue to hone in on my creative abilities and push forward to be the best poet, artist, writer and photographer I’m meant to be.

I will keep you posted on whether I make it into O!

CHALLENGE: What will you do to make your dreams come true? Please share!
